'Na God dey help us o' He said smiling sheepishly.
'Ok Sir.' She said, still laughing, ending her half-hearted concern
'Mummy Mummy' he walked away slowly. Announcing at the top of his voice the unfixed price of the sling bags he was carrying, her smile faded to the placid dryness of her every day life. His voice soon blended into the wave of the other market men, women and children hauling their lives on their heads announcing their worth to the world. A world that is blind and would remain blind to them unless they spoke.

LIFE IS SHORT DEATH IS SURE HELL IS REAL TURN TO JESUS The sign at the back of a bus on Lagos - Abeokuta express way. I stared at it and the words were dancing in my head - LIFE IS SHORT, DEATH IS SURE. There was not always much to look at in the taut traffic that often plagued this part of Lagos. It wasn’t the way he carried himself that gave him his reputation. He did not appear, as people would say, as the ‘type’. He had this dull brightness that fluttered around him; he was sluggish and overly unimpressive. In fact all that was attractive about him was his face and his naturally muscular body.
