Of Donald Trump, Wole Soyinka and Green Cards

So the Nobel Laureate Professor refuses to cut his green card now that Trump has won.

He had said: “If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that. “The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”

I was a tad surprised to see this man I respect so much, jumped into such a conclusion as hasty and costly as that.

I, on my part, expected Trump to win (I don't know why but I am aware of the uncanny game fate plays. The way she always brings the unexpected). I thought,  as a writer, I needed to be aware of the possibility of a TWIST. So when Trump was leading, I wasn't so shocked. When he won. Huzzah!
But Prof has now been put on the spot and even though people would had thought at first that it was a safe bet 'Like, Trump can't win over Hillary,  what with all the things he had said' but he had won and the same people are coming for his 'raven black bottom' saying he should come and join in their suffering in Nigeria.
We'll here's what I have a question for all those who are asking him to cut his Green card.

Did you really expect a multiple award holding, Nobel Laureate, Professor, Political  Analyst and Activist like Wole Soyinka to really tear up his Green Card just like that?!
And do you expect those who have lived in America for so long to just come like that without fighting for their right?

It's really crazy the way the broadcasts are spreading, telling Africans to begin packing their bags and coming back to their country.
Despite the threats that President-elect Donald Trump made, i still see it so impossible for him to order the exit of thousands of Africans living abroad and investing in the country's economy.

I Really don't blame anyone anyway. It is almost natural for society to look for someone to chew in an event like this.
I also don't blame Professor Soyinka for so strongly refuting a man he thought as potentially incompetent. Perhaps if he had passed such a vote of no confidence during the time of the Nigerian Election maybe, just maybe we'd have been in a better position than we are now.

But we seriously need to stop the shallow-mindedness that is beguiling our way of life and think deeply the implications of the situations we find ourselves.

    Hmmmmmm...even if the devil himself was the president of the States ...Nigerians won't still cut their green cards.in my opinion talk is cheap...Victory
