Of Donald Trump, Wole Soyinka and Green Cards

So the Nobel Laureate Professor refuses to cut his green card now that Trump has won.
Professor Wole Soyinka
He had said: “If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that. “The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”

I was a tad surprised to see this man I respect so much, jumped into such a conclusion as hasty and costly as that.

I, on my part, expected Trump to win (I don't know why but I am aware of the uncanny game fate plays. The way she always brings the unexpected). I thought,  as a writer, I needed to be aware of the possibility of a TWIST. So when Trump was leading, I wasn't so shocked. When he won. Huzzah!
But Prof has now been put on the spot and even though people would had thought at first that it was a safe bet 'Like, Trump can't win over Hillary,  what with all the things he had said' but he had won and the same people are coming for his 'raven black bottom' saying he should come and join in their suffering in Nigeria.
We'll here's what I have a question for all those who are asking him to cut his Green card.

Did you really expect a multiple award holding, Nobel Laureate, Professor, Political  Analyst and Activist like Wole Soyinka to really tear up his Green Card just like that?!
And do you expect those who have lived in America for so long to just come like that without fighting for their right?

It's really crazy the way the broadcasts are spreading, telling Africans to begin packing their bags and coming back to their country.
Despite the threats that President-elect Donald Trump made, i still see it so impossible for him to order the exit of thousands of Africans living abroad and investing in the country's economy.

I Really don't blame anyone anyway. It is almost natural for society to look for someone to chew in an event like this.
I also don't blame Professor Soyinka for so strongly refuting a man he thought as potentially incompetent. Perhaps if he had passed such a vote of no confidence during the time of the Nigerian Election maybe, just maybe we'd have been in a better position than we are now.

But we seriously need to stop the shallow-mindedness that is beguiling our way of life and think deeply the implications of the situations we find ourselves.

Short Story Fiction ~ On Top

Odd. Yes. That’s the word to describe the feeling when he’s on top of you, inside of you, thrusting rapidly like a mad man before he comes. You cannot feel anything but the hair on his chest. His husky breathing pollutes the air around you. His large belly seems to fill the space of the bed, he is surprisingly light.      As soon as he is done, he rolls off you and crashes into the bed, breathing a sigh of relief. He chuckles and prods himself on an elbow and looking into your eyes with a wide grin on his ugly mouth. He asks how you feel and if he was good. You want to say you hated every second of it but you simply ask why he had to be on top and he says a real man must always be on top.   You get off the bed and walk to the bathroom, with a tackiness between your legs. You lay in the tub staring at the tiled wall; the hot water doesn’t seem to wash away your filthiness. The soap smells nice however and you wrap it in your underwear to take it out...

A New Dream Of Politics | Ben Okri | Poetry

They say there is only one way for politics. That it looks with hard eyes at the hard world And shapes it with a ruler’s edge, Measuring what is possible against Acclaim, support, and votes. They say there is only one way to dream For the people, to give them not what they need But food for their fears. We measure the deeds of politicians By their time in power. But in ancient times they had another way. They measured greatness by the gold Of contentment, by the enduring arts, The laughter at the hearths, The length of silence when the bards Told of what was done by those who Had the courage to make their lands Happy, away from war, spreading justice And fostering health, The most precious of the arts Of governance. But we live in times that have lost This tough art of dreaming The best for its people, Or so we are told by cynics And doomsayers who see the end Of time in blood-red moons. Always when least expected an un...
